Minister Landau says Abu Dhabi visit 'interesting experience'

Yisrael Beitenu member, who was first Israeli minister to visit UAE capital, says didn't go out of his way to meet Syrian, Lebanese counterparts during energy conference

Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau (Yisrael Beitenu) was scheduled to return on Sunday from his visit to Abu Dhabi, where he attended a renewable energy conference.

Landau was the first Israeli minister to visit the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking to Ynet from an airport in Jordan, the minister said, "It was a very interesting experience, because it was the first of its kind. We did not meet with any of the Arab delegations. Most of our meetings were with the Americans, French and Germans.

"I did not go out of my way to meet my Syrian or Lebanese counterparts," said Landau. "When these things happen naturally, that's fine. But I wasn't going to force my presence on anyone. That's dishonorable in my eyes," said Landau.

"Some of the conference's participants spoke of the possibility of establishing an international organization for renewable energy. It is vital that Israel be involved from the early stages," he said.
