Right-wing British party calls for veil ban

Britain's right-wing UK Independence Party called Sunday for a ban on face-covering Muslim veils in public places. But the government says forbidding the veil would violate British values of tolerance.
UKIP European lawmaker Nigel Farage told the BBC that the veils are "a symbol of a divided Britain" and prevent Muslim women being assimilated into the British way of life. A ban on the body-covering burqa and face-veiling niqab is being considered in France, but no major British party supports the idea. (AP)
