Ex-UK Foreign Secretary defends Iraq war decision

None

Former UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has defended the decision to go to war with Iraq but calls it the most difficult choice he has ever faced. Straw says he knew his support was crucial and that if he had rejected the invasion plan Prime Minister Tony Blair would have been unable to win backing in the Cabinet and in Parliament.

Straw gave evidence Thursday to the ongoing Iraq Inquiry, which is planning to question Blair next week.

He says he stands by the decision to invade Iraq and overthrow Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein but regrets the heavy loss of life that followed. (AP)
