Coalition chairman slams state prosecutor over Beit Yonatan affair

Coalition Chairman Ze'ev Elkin said that State Prosecutor Moshe Lador "got confused and forgot that determining policy is the task of elected representatives alone." His criticism came following Lador's letter to Jerusalem Mayor Nir Bareket in which he criticizes the mayor's failure to implement the court order requiring the evacuation of Beit Yonatan in the Silwan neighborhood of east Jerusalem.
"Bareket is acting within the authority granted him for the benefit of the Jewish and Arab population of this sensitive area, while the state prosecutor is demanding a selective enforcement of the law against Jews alone, and ignores hundreds of other demolition orders in east Jerusalem," Elkin said.
