Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was sorry to hear the remarks made by Syrian President Bashar Assad that Israel is pushing the Middle East towards war. "The reality is the complete opposite," said Netanyahu.
Prime Minister's Office Spokesman Nir Heffetz reported, "Netanyahu declared on many occasions that he would be prepared to go anywhere in the world, at any time, in order to start peace talks with Syria without preconditions. To our sorrow, Syria is the one piling up difficulties and blocking negotiations and the drafting of arrangements that would ensure peace, security and prosperity for all sides."
