Former Foreign Ministry Director General Alon Liel has decided to return his diplomatic passport in protest at Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's words regarding Syria, and the way his deputy, Danny Ayalon, humiliated the Turkish ambassador to Israel.
Liel, who served as Israel's ambassador to Turkey in the past, is permitted to use a diplomatic passport for life due to his status as former Foreign Ministry director. He is currently serving as chairman of the Israel-Syria Peace Society. (Roee Nahmias)
