Palestinians split over local election call

The Hamas movement said Monday that Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and his government were illegitimate and not in a position to call a vote following the decision to declare local elections for July.

Any elections could only take place after national reconciliation, spokesman Fawzi Barhoum told Reuters. (Reuters)
