Yair for prime minister?

Yaron London unmoved by poll showing massive political support enjoyed by Yair Lapid

A recent poll in Israel discovered that about 25% of citizens here would lean towards voting for a party that would be headed by writer and anchorman Yair Lapid.

My first reaction after reading the poll’s findings was a desire to replace the citizens of this nation. Yet a short while later I recalled that foolishness has been indeed generously handed out to our people, yet God did not spare it from other nations as well.

I was thinking of calling Yair and seeing how is was doing, because I was concerned for his wellbeing. When exaggerated amounts of love are being lavished at a person, it may serve to drive him crazy.

This is particularly true if the person in question is not wise enough to assess his own merit.

Yet I quickly told myself that calling Yair was unnecessary. Yair Lapid is a wise man, who is well familiar with the unstable materials that make up this kind of adoration.

He realizes that this kind of love is similar to the capricious adoration directed at a pop star who made it to the top of the charts temporarily.

Moreover, who remembers better than Yair Lapid the quick rise of his late father, Tommy Lapid, which was followed by a painful fall reminiscent of Icarus’ plunge to his death? Indeed, the adoration of the masses was the wax used for gluing his father’s wings.
