Barrel washes up near Tel Aviv power station; police investigating
Workers at Reading Station alert police after a suspicious drum was found near cooling pumps
Police forces were called to the beach adjacent to the Reading Power Station in Tel Aviv after a suspicious barrel washed up on shore.
The barrel, reportedly of a red color, washed up near the power station's cooling pumps Saturday morning.
Police sappers and divers were immediately called to the scene and are investigating.
Several explosives-laden barrels washed up on Israel's southern shores three weeks ago.
Some of the barrels, launched by Palestinian terror groups, drifted as far as 56 miles away from Gaza, washing up on Ashdod, Ashkelon, Rishon Lezion and Netanya's beaches.
Three Palestinian groups claimed responsibility for launching the barrels as sea: Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades, Salah a-Din Brigades – the PRC's military wing and Nabil Massoud Brigades of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's military wing.
