Abbas: Palestinian state a vital interest for Israel

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in Brussels that the creation of an independent Palestinian state is a "vital interest" for Israel, while reiterating its refusal to negotiate without a total halt in settlements.
"An independent Palestinian state is vital for Israel," Abbas told deputies and senators in Belgium. "We all aspire to a just and lasting peace in a state that will live in peace with Israel," he added. (AFP)
