Head of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Saleh, who was sentenced to nine months in prison after being convicted of assaulting a police officer, appealed the ruling in the Jerusalem District Court.
The appeal submitted by his lawyer, Attorney Khaled Zebarqa, claimed that Magistrates' Court's ruling on the matter was made out of political considerations and that the punishment does not fit the crime, but is a punishment for the sheikh's political positions. (Aviad Glickman)
