Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that criticism of adding the Cave of the Patriarchs and Rachel's Tomb to the list of national heritage sites is "a hypocritical and false campaign. The State of Israel is committed to the freedom of worship of all religious at all holy sites."
Netanyahu's statement, which was conveyed by the head of the National Information Directorate, Nir Hefetz, said, "Rachel's Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs are the burial sites from more than 3,500 years ago of the forefathers and foremothers of the Jewish people. They certainly are worthy of preservation and renovation." (Roni Sofer)
