US high court weighs anti-terror support law

None

The Obama administration on Tuesday defended parts of a key anti-terror law against a Supreme Court challenge from humanitarian groups.

The administration urged the court to uphold the law's ban on providing "material" support to foreign terrorist organizations designated by the State Department even when it consists of training and advice about peaceful activities such as lobbying the United Nations. Any aid to terrorist groups "strengthens them in everything they do," the US government's lawyer, Solicitor General Elena Kagan, said. (AP)
