Obama: US ready to help Chile after earthquake

President Barack Obama said on Saturday that the United States stood ready to help Chile after a devastating earthquake struck the country and he also urged Americans to heed warnings about a possible resulting tsunami that could affect the US West Coast and Hawaii.

"The United States stands ready to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts and we have resources that are positioned to deploy should the Chilean government ask for our help," Obama told reporters after being briefed by aides on the earthquake and tsunami. (Reuters)
