Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi decided to dismiss Brig. Gen. Moshe (Chiko) Tamir, former commander of the Gaza Division, from the army after the latter was convicted for allowing his son to drive a military ATV.
The decision was made even though the military court of appeals decided not to demote Tamir, and instead only recommended that his promotion be delayed by two years. (Hanan Greenberg)
