Iraq wants to improve relations with Syria
Syria says Iraq wants to improve ties between the two neighbors. Their relations soured in the wake of massive Baghdad attacks last year and Iraqi claims that Damascus has been harboring the bombing suspects.
State SANA news agency says visiting Iraqi Vice President Tarek al-Hashemi met with Syrian President Bashar Assad on Tuesday and conveyed the message. It's the first visit by a senior Iraqi official since Iraq accused Syria of harboring militants behind the deadly August 19 bombings on the foreign and finance ministries in Baghdad. (AP)
