Norway on Wednesday expelled an Iranian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move after Iran expelled a Norwegian in protest against Oslo granting asylum to a defecting Iranian consul.
Mohammed Reza Heydari left his post and went into hiding in Norway along with his family after a crackdown in Iran last December on anti-government protesters. "Norway reacts strongly to the fact that Iranian authorities have requested a Norwegian diplomat to leave Tehran because of an asylum case in Norway," the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
