Israeli tourist missing in Brazil
Phoenix Insurance sends rescue party to search for Itai Ben-David, who went missing in Isla Grande
An Israeli search and rescue team left Friday to search for an Israeli tourist who went missing in Brazil two days ago.
"An Israeli citizen is missing in Brazil, and we are in touch with his family in Israel. The embassy in Brasilia is in constant contact with the authorities and local rescue forces are searching for him," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Phoenix insurance company has sent a team of five to search for Itai Ben-David in Isla Grande.
Hilik Magnos, who heads the team, told Ynet Ben-David left his girlfriend behind Wednesday morning and departed on a short day hike, but never returned.
"When he hadn't returned for a few hours she called local rescue services, which have been searching for him since yesterday," Magnos said. "We will leave tonight to try to find him."
Phoenix Insurance said they would not rely solely on local search parties. "There is always a chance they will find him, but we don't take those risks or accept the results achieved by local rescue teams," the company said in a statement.
