The Knesset Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee authorized a pared down civil marriage bill for a second and third reading. The bill is intended to allow citizens and permanent residents who are unaffiliated with any religion to register as married, thus affording them the rights of any other married couple.
The current bill only refers to "religiously unaffiliated" who will be able to register as married with a new body, the marriage registrar, which has yet to be formed. (Amnon Meranda)
