The American Israel Public Affairs Committee issued a statement calling the Obama administration's recent remarks on the US's ties with Israel "a matter of serious concern". The organizations urged the US to take "immediate steps to diffuse the tension with the Jewish state."
Over the weekend, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton phoned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reprimanded him over the announcement to build 1,600 new housing units in east Jerusalem during US Vice President Joe Biden's visit in Israel. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
