Thirty-six non-governmental organizations have condemned the Egyptian government plans to curtail their activities including monitoring election. In a statement released Monday, the groups said a new bill to be introduced to the parliament in the coming will penalize any NGO or advocacy group working without a government permit.
Under the new law all NGOs, including human rights groups, should join a government controlled federation that would vet their licenses and watch over their activities. About 25,000 organizations will be subject to the new law including their funding and policies. (AP)
