A magnitude 5.9 quake hit off the northern coast of the Philippines, the US Geological Survey reported on Monday.

 

The strong quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.1, struck on Tuesday at 3:58 a.m. (Monday at 1958 GMT). Its epicenter was 26 miles (42 km) northeast of Laoag, in Luzon, 26.5 miles (42.5 km) below the seabed. (Reuters)
