French president vows to crack down on ETA

French President Nicolas Sarkozy says his government intends to crack down on Basque separatists who are blamed for killing a French policeman last week. Sarkozy and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and government members attended a ceremony Tuesday for Jean-Serge Nerin.
The officer was killed last Tuesday in a shootout near the city of Melun, west of Paris. Sarkozy says he intends to eradicate ETA bases in France. He posthumously decorated the officer with the French Legion of Honor. The president says Nerin's killers will be treated with the greatest severity. (AP)
