Improvised explosives found at bus stop

Suspicious parcel at northern bus stop found to contain makeshift bomb; device neutralized safely by police sappers

Police sappers were called to a bus stop in Wadi Ara, near Haifa, after a man walking by it spotted a suspicious looking parcel.

As it turned out, the parcel contained a makeshift explosive device and flare parts. The device was neutralized and police launched an investigation into the matter.

The incident took place around 10 PM Tuesday, as a man walking by the Route 65 bus stop noticed a parcel hidden in the station. He alerted authorities and Amakim sub-district police sappers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The police proceeded to block part of Route 65 as a precaution.

An initial examination of the parcel raised concerns that it contained several explosive devices and possible hazardous materials. Police sources said that the exact nature of the materials found in the parcel, as well as the motive for placing it where it was found, have yet to be determined.

Initially, a police source said that, "We cannot determine whether these were actual explosives and whether they were placed as part of a criminal act or a terrorist act."

Once the parcel's content was safely neutralized, the police reopened Route 65.
