A wave of mud and water from a nearby river trapped several gold miners tunneling into sealed shafts in the northern Philippines, killing three, an official said Wednesday.
About 20 miners entered the complex maze of tunnels Tuesday near Itogon township in the mountain province of Benguet and six were trapped by water, mud and rocks, said George Baywong, a government engineer who led the search and rescue. They failed to surface for several hours. (AP)
