Bus stoned in Hebron, woman injured

Palestinian kids throw stones at Israeli bus as it mistakenly enters their neighborhood

An Israeli bus which mistakenly entered a Palestinian neighborhood in Hebron was pelted with stones Thursday.

One woman was lightly injured and a number of passengers suffered shock. Palestinian sources say no arrests have been made.

The incident took place in the neighborhood of Jabel Johar, just as the school day was coming to an end. The released students threw stones at the bus, which was carrying worshippers returning from prayer at the Cave of the Patriarchs.

The Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson's Office says the bus driver succeeded in escaping the neighborhood on his own.

Richard Stitt, a resident of Hebron whose home is located near the scene of the incident, told Ynet he arrived on the scene just moments after it occurred.

"I saw a woman bleeding and other passengers in a panic. Army forces had already arrived on the scene and were helping to care for and calm down the bus passengers," Stitt said.

He added that a short while later he saw IDF soldiers confront a group of Palestinians he believes were involved in the stone-throwing.

After the incident, which was followed by riots on the part of the Jewish residents of the city, a number of Knesset members arrived in Hebron for a ceremony marking the inclusion of the Cave of Patriarchs in a list of Jewish heritage sites fashioned by the government.

Thousands of visitors have been arriving in the city since Thursday morning, in convoys containing dozens of buses. The Jewish settlement in Hebron condemned the attack on the bus and stated, "The Palestinians continue to engage in provocation on Jewish holidays."
