Merkel calls Karzai over friendly fire deaths

Officials say German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called Afghan President Hamid Karzai to express her condolences following the accidental killing of six Afghan soldiers by the German military.

A government spokesman in Berlin - speaking on customary condition of anonymity - said on Saturday that Karzai thanked Merkel for her call and expressed his sympathy regarding the deaths of three German soldiers in Afghanistan. (AP)
