Ashkenazi associate says Barak announcement humiliating

A source close to IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi told Ynet on Tuesday that "one gets the feeling that the announcement was meant to humiliate the chief of staff, turn him into a lame duck and hurt him," referring to Defense Minister Ehud Barak's decision not to extend Ashkenazi's term.
"The issue was not on the table and he never spoke with the defense minister or the prime minister regarding the matter, and anyway never asked to extend his term," the source added. (Attila Somfalvi)
