Ousted Kyrgyz president asks for UN peacekeepers

Ousted Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev on Monday said he had asked the United Nations to send peacekeepers to the Central Asian country after he was forced to flee the capital Bishkek last week.

Bakiyev told reporters from a town in the south of the country that he wants the UN to establish an independent commission into the events of April 7. (Reuters)
