70-year-old tourist drowns in Dead Sea

In fourth drowning incident this year, unconscious Russian woman pulled out of water by lifeguard; medics pronounce her death

A 70-year-old Russian tourist on Monday was pulled out of the water at Ein Bokek beach in the Dead Sea while unconscious. A Magen David Adom Negev team pronounced her dead.

Senior paramedic Moshe Asulin said a lifeguard noticed the unconscious woman in the water and pulled her out. "There was not much we could do, apparently she was in the water for a few hours, until the lifeguard arrived in the morning and noticed here," Asulin said.

Last October, a 70-year-old woman drowned on the same beach, near the Dead Sea resorts. A Magen David Adom team that arrived to the scene tried to revive her, but was unsuccessful.

Five months earlier, a four-year-old girl drowned at the same spot after going into the water with her brother, while their parents were on the beach.

The girl's relatives pulled her out and ran to the Magen David Adom station adjacent to the beach. However, it was too late and the medics pronounced her death.

In another drowning incident last June, a 45-year-old tourist died after bathing in the sea during the late hours of the evening.

Passersby noticed the body of the woman floating in the water, pulled her out and called the paramedics – who pronounced her dead.
