US defense chief: nuclear talks a good first step
Defense Secretary Robert Gates says this week's nuclear security conference represents the first real concerted international effort to confront the threat of nuclear material falling into the hands of terrorists.
Gates said that until now, the threat has mostly been one that people talk about, but have few means to address. Gates said the conference offers a way to reinforce existing global controls on nuclear materials and look for new ways to secure the world's stockpiles of nuclear raw materials. (AP)
