Report: Shalit mediator resumed talks two weeks ago

The German mediator in efforts to secure a prisoner exchange deal for the release of captive soldier Gilad Shalit visited the region two weeks ago, but made no progress, London-based al-Hayat newspaper reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the mediator met with Israeli and Hamas officials, and also met with Egyptian Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman. Palestinian sources said the purpose of the visit was to "clarify the parties' positions" but that nothing new came out of it. "He did not propose any alternatives. It seems he wishes to revive the matter," a Palestinian source said. (Roee Nahmias)
