Knesset Member Zevulun Orlev (Habayit Hayehudi) requested on Monday that chairwoman of the Election Committee, Justice Ayala Procaccia, prevent the six Arab Knesset members who are visiting Libya from running in the next Knesset elections.

Orlev also requested that Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein order a criminal investigation against them for visiting an enemy state without authorization.

However, Ynet has learned that over the past few weeks Israel has been working to resolve a sensitive humanitarian issue concerning Libya with the help of various mediators, among them the Arab-Israeli lawmakers.

But the Arab MKs who are visiting Libya - Talab El-Sana, Ahmad Tibi, Mohammad Barakeh, Afou Agbaria, Hanin Zoabi and Jamal Zahalka – told Ynet they were not familiar with the affair and that it had nothing to do with their trip to Libya.

In any case, Jerusalem is following the developments in Libya closely. Jerusalem has no diplomatic relations with Tripoli.
