Teva to cut jobs from US factory

Company does not specify how many out of 500 Sellersville plant employees to be affected, but spokesperson says current workers shouldn't see 'significant changes' until late 2011

Teva Pharmaceuticals announced on Friday that it plans to change operations at its production plant in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, USA.

As part of the change, the company will cut hundreds of jobs, but has vowed to redeploy some of the employees to other plants.

A Teva spokesperson told news agencies abroad that current workers shouldn't see "significant changes" until late 2011.

Teva has recently been taking reorganization steps aimed at increasing efficiency as part of a long-term strategy the company presented at the end of last year.

The company plans to transfer the production of several products to its facility in Forrest, Virginia, in hopes of reducing expenses, while causing minimal harm to its costumers and the drugs' consumers.

Teva said employees who are affected by the change will be encouraged to apply for other jobs within the company, and will be eligible to receive a severance package.

The company will also offer any workers who lose their job to work with outplacement services to assist them in identifying other career opportunities.

Teva did not say how many employees out of the 500 would be affected by the change.
