Israeli Ambassador to Egypt Yitzhak Levanon protested in the name of his country against a speech by Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, who called Israel an "enemy" during a visit to Lebanon.
Egyptian authorities responded by saying that it was a misunderstanding. "He meant that he could not convey a message from Israel to Lebanon, who sees Israel as an enemy state," the Foreign Ministry said. (Roni Sofer)
