Aid workers report heavy shooting in Darfur city

Aid workers reported heavy gunfire in the capital of Sudan's North Darfur state El Fasher on Sunday, the scene of recent protests over a collapsed investment scheme.

The region's joint UN/African Union peacekeeping force said officers heard sporadic shooting in the main market, the same area where police used tear gas last week to break up a demonstration by investors who lost money in a failed pyramid- style "Ponzi" scheme. (Reuters)
