Detained Syrian lawyer wins human rights award

Ten international human rights groups have awarded their annual prize for bravery to a Syrian lawyer detained for challenging the country's legal system.

Organizers of the Martin Ennals Award say Muhannad al-Hassani "bravely defended human rights and challenged the oppressive legal framework imposed by the Syrian government." (AP)
