The United States on Saturday welcomed the Palestine Liberation Organization's decision to approve indirect talks with Israel as an important step in the peace process. "It is an important and welcome step," US State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said.
"George Mitchell will follow up with President Abbas later today," he added, referring to President Barack Obama's special envoy for Middle East peace, who will mediate the talks, and Palestinian President Mahmound Abbas. (Reuters)
