India: Maoist rebel blast kills 8 troops

None

A top police official says Maoist rebels blew up an army truck in central India, killing eight paramilitary soldiers. The director general of police says Maoist rebels mined a bulletproof armored truck, killing the soldiers in the densely forested Bijapur district of Chattisgarh state.

The soldiers were heading home for vacation when the vehicle was blown up. The official says at least two other people were wounded. This is the first major attack by Maoist rebels in the state since they killed 76 paramilitary soldiers in an ambush on April 6. (AP)
