US: Israel commits not to build in E. J'lem's Ramat Shlomo
US Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell has issued a notice saying that Israel and the Palestinians have taken steps to create an atmosphere conducive to proximity talks, including an Israeli commitment not to build in east Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo for a period of two years.
The two sides are trying to progress in difficult circumstances, Mitchell said, and praised the two sides for their efforts. At the same time, the US administration warned that if the sides took significant steps to undermine confidence in proximity talks, they will bear responsibility. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
