Tehran protest Tuesday

Iranian students protest Ahmadinejad visit

(Video) Hundreds gather at Tehran University as Iranian president tours premises, calling him a 'liar'

VIDEO - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received a chilly welcome Monday at the University of Tehran, where hundreds of pro-Opposition students protesting against his appearance there clashed with Revolutionary Guardsmen for a number of hours.

The protestors, among whom were quite a large number of women, cried out calls of "Freedom" at the guards.

Iranian state television was quick to dismiss the protest as unrelated to the president's visit, saying that the students had not even been aware of his plan to speak at the university.

But reformist websites countered the reports, posting videos documenting security guards deploying outside the university as Ahmadinejad toured the premises.

The videos also show hundreds of protestors crying, "The students would rather die than agree to humiliation and oppression" and "The day we accept liar Ahmadinejad as our guest is a day of mourning".

Tehran's universities have become known as a locus of anti-regime protests conducted by students. Six months ago the protests heated up when hundreds gathered on the various campuses, calling out cries of condemnation against the ayatollah regime. "Disperse Ahmadi," they called out to police who came to quell the outburst.
