Medvedev urges Hamas to free Gilad Shalit

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal to free kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit from captivity in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
Medvedev visited Syria on Monday and met with Syrian President Bashar Assad. The Russian president expressed hope that Russia and Syria will "lead to solutions on regional and international issues." (AFP)
