A major figure in Mexican President Felipe Calderon's political party was feared kidnapped on Saturday after his abandoned car was found with signs of violence, the attorney general's office said.

Diego Fernandez de Cevallos, 69, the 1994 presidential candidate for Calderon's conservative National Action Party, or PAN, has been missing since Friday, local media reported. His car was discovered near his ranch in the central state of Queretaro with some of his personal belongings, a statement from the attorney general's office said. (Reuters)
