A colonel with the Israel Defense Forces was found dead in a forest in northern Israel Saturday,
after taking his own life.
His body was found by a cyclist riding the trails near kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek. He informed emergency services, who immediately dispatched police and IDF forces to the area.
The officer was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to initial details, the officer, who was currently on study leave, served in high-ranking positions in the Intelligence Corps, and was previously stationed in both the GOC Southern and Northern commands.
The circumstances of the suicide are believed to be personal, but the Military Police has launched an investigation nonetheless, as required by military protocol.
