Gaza region attack foiled

IDF forces spot three terrorists attempting to plant explosive device near Gaza-area kibbutz; Air Force targets terror cell, Palestinians say seven people hurt in strike.

Attack foiled: Several Palestinians were wounded Thursday evening as the IDF foiled an attempted terror attack near the fence, close to Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

IDF forces spotted three Palestinians who attempted to take advantage of the heavy fog in order to plant an explosive device near the Gaza border fence. Air Force aircraft opened fire at the suspects.

The Palestinians subsequently fired several mortar shells at the area, apparently in an effort to evacuate their wounded. No injuries or damages were reported among IDF troops.

Sources in Gaza said that seven Palestinians were hurt in the incident. IDF forces later proceeded to scour the area to ensure that no terrorists remain in the zone.

The latest attempt comes on the heels of a tense week in southern Israel. On Tuesday, four mortar shells were fired at Israel, prompting the IDF to respond by targeting two terror tunnels in the northern and southern Gaza Strip. The Palestinians said 15 people were hurt in that strike, including two who sustained serious wounds.

Earlier Tuesday, a terror attack failed near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip, after a donkey carrying an explosive device was sent to the area. The donkey was killed after the device blew up, but no other injuries were reported.
