The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF) said Monday that it "deeply regrets" the deaths in an Israel Defense Forces operation against a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, saying that "this is not a good news for peace."
"We regret what happened," said Haim Musicant, director-general of the main French Jewish organization.
"Unfortunately, this happens when there were hopes for peace between Palestinians and Israelis, this is not good news for peace." "We deeply regret that there are victims," he added.
"We offer our sincere compassion and sadness," Musicant said.
France is home to the largest Jewish community in Europe, estimated at more than 500,000 people.
