Senior Hamas operative in Jerusalem, Muhammad Abu Tir, was detained for questioning by police Friday and stripped of his Israeli citizenship.

Abu Tir, who was just recently released from a four-year prison sentence, was told to leave Israel's territory by the beginning of next month, otherwise he will be arrested.

Other Hamas operatives were also summoned to police for questioning and stripped of their citizenship, including Khaled Abu-Arafa, Mohammad Totah, and Ahmad Attoun.

Two weeks ago and just hours after being released from jail, Abu-Tir was summoned to a Shin Bet interrogation and told he must leave Jerusalem, where he resides. He was given until June 19 to leave the capital.

"I don't know what to say. This is an evil move that points to an extortion attempt," Abu-Tir told Ynet. "They told me I must remain in my village and never got to the city. I don't know the reason for this."
