A blind musician with a dream

(Video) Dina Samte uses unique singing talent to express yearnings of Bnei Menashe people from northeastern India to come home to Israel

VIDEO - When 16 year-old Dina Samte speaks, it is hard to believe that she moved to Israel just three years ago.

This remarkable young woman, who has been blind since childhood, came on aliyah together with a large group of Bnei Menashe immigrants from northeastern India in 2007, at the initiative of the Shavei Israel (www.shavei.org) organization.

The Bnei Menashe claim descent from a Lost Tribe of Israel, whose ancestors were exiled by the Assyrian empire more than 2700 years ago.

In the short time that Dina has been in the country, she has already succeeded in mastering the Hebrew language as well as learning to read and write in Braille.

But Dina's true love is song and music, and she excels at both.

Before moving to Israel, she was a popular performer who released several CDs.

Now, she is using her G-d-given talent to give expression to the yearnings of the 7,200 Bnei Menashe still in India, all of whom dream of one day coming home to Israel.
