Police suspect troops stabbed by Arabs in Haifa

Police believe two soldiers got drunk, provoked members of Arab family, resulting in violent brawl

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was lightly injured Thursday night after being stabbed in the head in the northern city of Haifa. The police believe the soldier and his friend got drunk and provoked members of an Arab family in the area, leading to a brawl.

During the fight, the soldier was injured in the head and his friend was lightly wounded in his hand. The two injured men were treated on site by a Magen David Adom emergency crew.

The police arrested one of the female members of the Arab family and was searching for another suspect. A police official noted following an initial investigation that the incident was the result of "hooliganism".

Last week, a 39-year-old man was stabbed in the city of Netanya in what the police believe was a nationalistically motivated incident. Three Palestinians were arrested on suspicion of being involvement in the stabbing.

The victim, a resident of the West Bank settlement of Avnei Hefetz, was making his way to work in Netanya's old industrial zone Wednesday morning, when he was attacked by one of the suspects.

The assailant pushed the man and proceeded to stab him in his abdomen and hands, while shouting 'Allahu Akbar".
