Muslim Brotherhood slams Hamas for Israeli food

Egyptian delegation to Gaza angered by Israeli products at official dinner hosted by Hamas

Bitter conflict broke out between Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood delegation visiting Gaza this week because of Israeli-produced food, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported Saturday.

Sources said the conflict was sparked during a dinner hosted by Hamas's prime minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh. His guests noted some of the products were Israeli-made, and an Egyptian parliament member even cried out, "Shame on you!"

Wafa is known for its lack of sympathy for Hamas, and the report has not yet been confirmed by any other source, but if it is indeed true it constitutes a major embarrassment for the group, especially in light of the boycott recently imposed by its rival, Fatah, in the West Bank.

On Tuesday nine Egyptian MPs composing the Muslim Brotherhood delegation crossed into Gaza through the recently opened Rafah border crossing.

Two members of the delegation, which aimed to "identify with the residents" of the Strip, had also taken part in the recent aid flotilla to Gaza.
